The secret to (beauty) success: Coconut oil

Hi bamba beauties,

No, I’m not exaggerating.
I use coconut oil for everything. You don’t need to buy expensive body creams, pumped with nasty chemicals that moisturize your skin for about 2 seconds. All you need, ladies and gentleman, is coconut oil.

I stumbled upon coconut oil not that long ago. I think there has been a recent hype about this natural product in the last few years. Before the hype, the oil was hardly available anywhere.
Now you can find coconut oil in many supermarkets and drugstores. I always buy mine in the german drugstore chain DM. At first I was sceptical towards smearing edible oil on my body. It is a grocery at the end of the day. It is sticky and doesn’t feel as light as industrial moisture creams. But you get used to it. I wouldn’t recommend applying oil in the daytime when you have to touch a lot of things because everything you touch will get sticky: your laptop, book or face. But it is extremely nice to apply coconut oil after a shower to bring back the moisture on your skin. I do put a teaspoon sized drop of the oil into my bathwater to prevent my skin from drying out too much. Moreover I did use it a few times to take off my waterproof mascara as soaps can be very aggressive in your eyes. I even apply it on the ends of my hair. Those are naturally very dry and the oil builds a protective coat around the split ends. And the hair looks shinier that way.

It is my go-to hand cream. Especially now in the wintertime my hands get extremely dry and coconut oil is always the savior at the end of the day.
You can even cook with it (which is its main purpose): I fried some banana pancakes in coconut oil and it gave the pancakes an exotic sweet nutty flavour. Coconut oil works perfect for desserts.
I will try to research a bit about coconut oil. Wherefrom it is imported and so on.
I will let you know if I have collected further information. For now, if I have the choice between an industrial moisturizer I can get in the drugstore and natural coconut oil, I will choose the coconut oil.

Do you love coconut oil as much as me?

Have a nice week!

Trip to Byron Bay

Hey there conquerors!

Welcome to some Dee-time. We haven't been going on an adventure for a while. Therefore I figured we should satisfy our wanderlust which is why I am going to take you on a trip to Byron Bay. So far I have been there twice.

For those of you who never heard of Byron it's a small beachside town in New South Wales in Australia. Although it's a rather small town it has been hyped extremely over the years. You'll notice how overcrowded this place is even before you entered the town due to the congestion. We were quite lucky as the traffic wasn't too bad when we went there. Looking for a parking spot can be hard depending on how long you want to stay but we were lucky again. However I must say that 10 bucks for four hours parking is quite expensive though.

The weather was really good that day so many people were at the beach but the streets were still full of people. Byron is well-known for attracting backpackers. Most of them go there for fun, drinking and partying. But it's also a nice surfing spot.

At lunchtime we decided to go back to the car and have something to eat and drink. While we were sitting there we were watching the people when we realised that a small group of friends were checking out the license plates. They suddenly stopped at the car next to us. There was a guy sitting in the campervan and they went straight up to him. They only talked for a few seconds when he gave the girl a small bag. I couldn't believe that the guy was selling drugs right out of his car. When I was still thinking about whether I should call the cops or not he realised that I was staring at him. Then he drove off. I was really shocked that this cute small town was obviously known for its drug dealers. But I still think Byron is worth to be checked out.

The lighthouse in Byron is iconic which is why we definitely wanted to go there. When you drive up the hill towards the lighthouse there is a small parking area and then there is another one right in front of the lighthouse. You have to pay for both parking areas again. I can't remember the exact amount. I believe something between 5-10 bucks but don't quote me on that. That is just insane considering that you'd probably only take a few photos for 10 minutes max. which is why we then decided not to go there. Paying almost 20 bucks for a few hours parking is just way too much in my opinion.

Other than that Byron is a nice place. Cute little shops with amazing clothes and other things. I bought a stunning denim jacket and a lovely bag by Kate Hill both second hand. It's easy to get lost in all the little shops but I really enjoyed the vibe of the town. I highly recommend visiting Byron Bay although there are a few downsides.

That's it for today conquerors. Lots of love and remember to conquer the world!!

My favourite accessories: Part 2

Hi bamba fashionistas,
Welcome to the second part of my accessories special!
I want to show you my favourite jewellery pieces that I like to wear on a daily basis.
You will see that there is a certain theme in my jewellery choice. I like silver jewellery for every day. I think gold is for special occasions. Silver is much more subtle and I like that reserved look for daily wear. I don’t like bulky jewellery that much either (exception listed below :D). Delicate jewellery is more elegant (and does look more expensive) in my view.

Most of my rings are from the stores I AM or SIXX. The ring with the circle is from Reserved. Hands look so much more neat when you wear beautiful rings. But personally I wouldn’t wear more than one ring on each hand. Stacking jewellery is not for me.

For me, earrings either have to be tiny and delicate or absolutely eye-catching. There is no in-between for me. When I am going out I like to wear the type in the first picture. Dangle earrings are just more interesting and fun. They will surely turn heads and you won't go unnoticed. I believe that big hoops are coming back on trend. Correct me if I’m wrong.
Earrings: dangly ones from SIXX or I AM (not sure)

tiny silver ones are from I AM (love them for every day)

I got this necklace as a present so it has a kind of sentimental meaning for me.
It says my name in Russian. Well, the Russian version of my name: Natalija.

I love bracelets. One of them is a present from my grandparents and the other I gifted to myself for my 20th birthday. I don’t take them off. I like my jewellery to last many years and even if I don’t take them off for showering they should last a while as I am lazy like that. Bracelets are my favourite type of jewellery I have to admit.

Do you have a sentimental piece of jewellery that you wear every day?
What is the story behind it? Tell me in the comments below.

I hate wearing belts. It feels so uncomfortable. Nope, you won’t catch me wearing a belt in my daily outfits. The only type of ‘belt’ I can bare wearing are waist belts. I like to accentuate my waist area so these types of belts are perfect for me. And believe it or not, I find them quite comfortable.
Belt is from H&M.

Lots of love for you!

Healthy diet - 2 months challenge

Hey there conquerors!

Welcome to some Dee-time. I know that many of you have New Year's resolutions. Some of you plan on doing more sports others want to lose weight. If you are interested in fitness please feel free to check out Natalie's post about staying fit. But if you are more interested in a healthy diet and hopefully losing some weight without any sports or just a bit follow my 2 months journey. For those of you who say that I can't lose weight without doing sports or that I'll just lose water, see it as an experiment.

I honestly wouldn't consider it as a New Year's resolution. Personally I just want to take the good vibe of 2018 to get a change. I guess I always had a problem with my appearance. Sometimes more and sometimes less. I know that most of it is probably just in my head but it's hard to overcome this when you are used to that. I felt good for a year which is such a huge achievement for me but something pulled me back.

In order to make me feel better I decided to change my diet and get healthier. Especially at the end of 2017 I realised how bad my diet was. Heaps of sweets, carbs and just big portions in general. And yes of course I gained some weight. I can't say how much but some of my favourite jeans don't fit anymore. Call me silly but I don't want my weight and eating habits ruin my wardrobe and style. I want to live healthier.

Now there are hundreds of ways how to lose weight and I already feel like I tried a majority of it which sucks considering that I'm just 23. But living healthy and feeling good takes time. And the first step is admitting that you do things wrong. I did things wrong and want to start over. My goal is to lose 5kg in 8 weeks which I think is achievable. However if I don't achieve it I hopefully at least fit into my jeans again. So fingers crossed.

Let's start of with some tips:

1. Drink water! A lot of it!
2. Eat from smaller plates! You'll notice that you'll eat less.
3. Drink while you are eating! This will fill up your stomach quicker and you'll eat less.
4. One piece of candy a day to avoid munchies!
5. Have a cheat night or day once a week!

What I plan on eating in a week:

Brekkie: 2 slices of crispbread or 2 slices of home-baked protein bread (without any sugar and flour) I'll eat one slice with ham or salami and the other one with cream cheese and a thin layer of marmalade for a bit of sweetness

Lunch: As usual but smaller portions. But I also plan on eating less meat. Therefore I'll try to eat 2 veggie meals, 2 fish meals combined with salad and 3 meals with meat in a week.

Dinner: Fruits or a fruit salad with a big cup of black tea. And when I still feel hungry I go for 2 slices of crispbread.

If I feel hungry between these three meals I'll go for vegetables and fruits or my piece of candy.

My weight list (I'll update this weekly):

Starting weight: 01.01.2018 63,3kg
Week 1: 03.01.2018 62,8kg
Week 2: 08.01.2018 63,2kg ; 10.01.2018 63,1kg
Week 3: 14.01.2018 62,8kg

Here's a little update on how I did so far. My plan on what I was supposed to eat didn't quite work out. I often felt hungry in the evening although I went for the additional two slices of crispbread. Therefore I went for the protein bread instead which really helped me out a lot. I also failed eating less meat but I'm still trying though. In week three I definitely will include the two veggie meals per week. The two meals with fish worked out perfectly so far. I also had no problems with going for healthier snacks like fruits and vegetables which I was kinda surprised by to be honest. However I did cheat a bit with brekkie as I sometimes went for a bit of nutella. But only when I felt like I needed some sugar. The weight loss is not really as good as I hoped but I had some girls issues during the first week which might be the reason.

I'm not saying I'm doing this diet the right way. Everyone has to experience it themselves in order to be able to judge. Losing weight is a personal matter. Every body is different and for me it's more about feeling good and staying healthy than losing weight. But I'm still admiring my jeans from far away. Stay tuned for an update at the end of January!

I hope you join me on this challenge and share your achievements with me. If you have any tips please share these in the comments below.  Stay healthy!

New perfume obsession

Hi bamba beauties,
I like the 007 scents for women. Yet none of them actually pursued me as much to buy a bottle. But they brought out a new scent called James Bond 007 for Women III Eau de Parfum.
It is their third scent of the 007 for women range. It is a fruity scent. You know I love my fruity scents. I think it will be perfect in spring & summer. It is very warm and feminine. Just a cozy, happy scent. I think I like it so much because it reminds me of a time I’ve done an internship in Spain.
I believe that one of my roommates was wearing a similar scent during that time and now every time I sniff this perfume it reminds me of this happy time in Spain. I believe it is the patchouli that wakes my memories. From my first uses I can say that the lasting power is not very long. But this is okay for me. This is a drugstore scent and not very expensive. For this price, the quality is good. It is about 15 EURO for 30 ml. It smells like a fruit cocktail mixed with some warmer spicy notes.
I just love this scent right now. I think it does suit me. I will see what kind of reactions my surroundings will give this scent. I will tell you :)

Information about this perfume on fragrantica:
Top notes: pineapple, papaya
middle notes: frangipani, ylang-ylang, solar notes
base notes: patchouli, benzoin, sandalwood
(Information on notes from fragrantica)

Do you have a special scent that reminds you of a nice voyage?

My favourite accessories: Part 1

Hey there conquerors,

this week I will grant you a glimpse into my accessories wardrobe! Like most girls I have too many of those cute little pieces that will spice up every outfit. I probably should start a clear out soon.
But this confession aside: Next week I will do a part 2, focusing on jewellery pieces. Moreover I will present to you in part 2 the kind of belts that I am absolutely obsessed with!
And I am planning on doing a bag special as I am definitely a bag girl. I will show you the right bag for every occasion. School, uni, work or a night out: there is a suitable bag for every occasion!
Stay tuned for the bag special in a few weeks. Just click on our fashion section.
Have fun reading it!

Let me tell you, investing in nice high quality sunglasses is the key to not only look absolutely fashionable in the sun, it protects your eyes with the best quality.
When I was a teenager I used to buy 1 euro sunglasses that looked kinda trendy. They broke easily and I’m not sure if the protection they provided was appropriate.
Please invest your money into high quality sunglasses. Your eyes are so important and vulnerable.
And if you are going to invest into new sunglasses don’t buy a number that is trendy for like one season. Buy glasses that are timeless, elegant and suit every outfit. I think I found the go-to glasses for me! I was inspired by my fashion and beauty muse Candice Swanepoel to buy these particular glasses. As usual. I think they are unisex. They are by Ray-Ban. I have had them for a couple of years now and I still find them very chic. I probably won’t buy anymore cheap sunglasses just for one season as I used to. In general my motto this year is quality not quantity! Here is a link for the sunglasses.

 Fossil ES3405
In a time everyone is carrying at least one technical device that includes a clock most people don’t wear a watch anymore. I am one of these people. Oftentimes I forget my watch at home. I mean I have my mobile phone with me? But there were occasions (more than once) where my battery died and I was left without a reliable clock. Sad times. Of course you could ask pedestrians but when you are as shy as me you find that quite uncomfortable. When I want to be safe and one hundred percent on time I always make sure to carry an old-school clock with me. Better be safe than sorry.
I love small clocks. The big clocks that are so popular right now aren’t my cup of tea. I have very delicate arms and bulky watches just make my arms look so childish.
I like cute feminine watches. They can have a soft pink in them just like the model in the picture but it mustn’t. There are a few small watches by Michael Kors that I like at the moment. Maybe in the future I will buy a new watch but until then I will just use my Fossil watch. The quality of this one is excellent. I do like Fossil as a brand very much. I also have a wallet by Fossil which is very beautiful.
Here is a link for the watch: amazon link.
I want to know if you are into delicate small watches like me or do you like the bulky kind that was on trend so long?

Study abroad in Australia Part 3 - Accommodation

Hey there conquerors!

Welcome to some Dee-time. Today we are doing the third part of my study abroad series which means we are going to talk about finding the right accommodation.

The first decision you have to make is whether you want to live alone or with your partner, in a shared accommodation with people you don't know yet or with friends you already made or who joined you at this exciting adventure.

The next step is calculating your budget. Take a look at your income and think about your expenses. Don't make any assumptions about your future income. Go with your current one as you never know what will happen in the future. From my own experience I can tell that it's not that easy to find a job in Australia as you might think. And you don't know how much effort you have to put into your studies. You might not even have the time to work or maybe your payoff is just less than you expected. There are just too many things that can or cannot happen. Therefore calculate with the income you know you'll have for sure. The opposite applies for your expenses. Consider any potential costs you might have. Think about the fact that maybe internet, electricity and water fees are not included in your rent. It's not unusual that only the fees for water are included in Australia. Take transport costs into consideration. If you are looking for a car you need to calculate fuel costs, insurance and the costs for the car itself. If you rather use public transport calculate with these costs. Also keep in mind that you need money for groceries and some free time activities. I know it's a lot to consider but you rather think about it know than not being able to pay your rent at the end of the day.

You should probably have a budget by now. So let's take a look at the apartment market. Depending on your budget and what you are looking for the range is either huge or small. I'd say our selection wasn't too bad. However out of probably 20 apartments we inspected we genuinely only considered two. I know how insane that sounds but I swear we didn't have any high standards. If anyone is wondering where we were looking for an apartment it was the Gold Coast. Somewhere between Surfers Paradise and Tugun. We ended up living in Miami which was literally the best. We decided to rent the first apartment we were inspecting. However we didn't apply straight away as we wanted to see what the market has to offer us. Although I have to say that I loved it straight away. We paid 265 AUD per week. Yes, in Australia you pay your rent weekly. It was the cheapest apartment we ever inspected. The neighbours were awesome and we had a central location with only a 20 minute bus ride to our uni. The studio was spacious and had nice modern white furniture. It was perfect.

Don't be afraid to look for an apartment for a few weeks. I guess we arrived in Australia probably two weeks before o-week so we had quite some time. We booked an airbnb for the first week, extended our stay for one or two days and then we signed the contract and got the keys. I highly recommend using the app domain because it lists a variety of apartments from different agencies. You can look for apartments by using many filters and can also select the area you want to live in by using the map. This app was really helpful to us.

Now a few tips:

1. Go with your gut feeling. If you are suspicious of your potential flatmates or neighbourhood don't even consider living there.

2. Be open. This is a whole new experience don't compare it with what you have experienced before. Enjoy every minute of your time and be open to anything new.

3. Take your time. You don't need to take the first available apartment. Look for options and take the one that gives you a good feeling.

4. Don't judge a book by it's cover. We have seen heaps of apartments online were we thought 'yeah that would be great for us'. However when we inspected them it was a nightmare of apartments. And they still want to sell you this as a gem.

5. Never rent without an inspection!!

6. Look at many apartments and ask questions if you have any.

7. Don't be afraid to move a second time.

I hope I could help you out a bit. If you have any further questions leave them in the comment section down below. Stay tuned for my study abroad part 4 which will be all about o-week and first impressions.

That's it for today conquerors. Lots of love and remember to conquer the world!!
